SUMMER EXHIBITION: WHAT'S ON

By 5th August 2017

In our gallery space this summer, we are showcasing some of our most vibrant and exciting pieces; many names will make an appearance this August, showcasing the diverse and dynamic range of works we have here at one of the only international galleries in Edinburgh.

A beautiful portrait of Frida Kahlo, ‘La Raza’ by Valeria Becker, will adorn the gallery space. Kahlo’s vivacious and sensual spirit is echoed in the warm tones and the floral crown. She sits among a host of other female figures; our pin up puzzle-piece princesses Arwen and Lou and Youn’s solid bronze ‘La Boudeuse,’ ‘Girls’ Generation’ and ‘Youn Day.’ We will also be hanging some new, small countryside landscape pieces by Benoît Trimborn; expect pastoral, bucolic scenes from northern France.

English artist Matt Duke is also back with several new pieces that we are very excited to showcase in our summer exhibition. Solid bronze animals are embellished with coloured patinas, executed in their entirety by this exceptionally skilled artist. Duke’s work echoes the elemental beauty of his natural subject matter; his interest in form and movement is readily apparent and the colours are earthen and organic.

Graffiti artist Keymi has returned to the studio after completing several large-scale public works and we will see pieces from the new series here at Urbane in August. Expect graphic works in Keymi’s signature style; pop-art puzzle pieces will adorn our walls and reflect the dynamic and colourful festival atmosphere. Whether a small-scale single piece or a larger composition, these works are fun, vibrant and highly collectible.
