Bringing National and International Art to Edinburgh

Mary Trodden

Mary Trodden graduated from Edinburgh College of Art, selling the entirety of her degree show and going on to exhibit and teach in London, Newcastle, Glasgow and abroad in Germany, the Netherlands and North America.

Trodden's paintings have been shortlisted for numerous prizes including the inaugural prize at the 'Biscuit Factory' in Gateshead and the Kelpies Design Award.

Her work has been published in 'The Scotsman', 'The Sunday Times', 'ID Magazine', ‘Artmag’ and featured on Thames television. Her paintings were appraised by Wayne Hemingway and they are part of the personal collection of reputable British art critic Brian Sewell.

Trodden's work often involves a narrative, either describing a personal journey, depicting an ironic commentary to our social structure, or displaying a playful symbolic representation of our quotidian life.

She uses illustrative and linear portraiture against a fantastical and geometric scape. The intricate details of brush technique and conceptual content on her paintings are a never-ending fascination.
